TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge Part XIII
drywall... When Audrey was 14 she wanted the ugly original plank covered walls out of the downstairs "family" room so she could use it for a big bedroom. I framed in a closet in one end, we stripped the walls to the studs, new insulation and I ran all new wiring with more receptacles, and 8 recessed ceiling lights. Had her wire up some of the ceiling lights and one wall was hers, only helped her hang the drywall and she did all the tape, mud and finish work on it. Wanted her to learn and also appreciate the effort in doing a good job, figured she'd be more inclined to take care of it later. Couldn't find a single screw or joint when she finished painting, was as good as any I've ever done. She also helped me put up the ceiling drywall, neither of us could hold a 4x8 sheet up there and screw it down by ourself. Since then, she's done drywall work in 3 of her houses by herself. She did hit a dead end putting in a ceiling light once, but even I had to puzzle out the screwed up way the original house wiring had been installed. Professionals... I've fixed so much of their work. Russ knows how that goes...
I've always known that having a kid at 37 meant a good chance she'd still be fairly young when I wouldn't be able to help anymore, and as she grew up I tried to give her a piece of most of the things I did. She didn't always like it, but now she likes it when I can do some of that with her son, too. She's even learned more about some things I started her on than I know.

Finished looking through the Disney selections today, and not really a whole lot I'd watch, most of the movies I'd want to watch I've already seen. I'm sure my Granddaughter will like it even better than the youtube kiddie videos she likes best currently. Irritating videos after a few minutes... The media is making the Disney channel out to be the one the others should be scared of, but I think it's mostly going to appeal to people with children, you could easily watch all the adult stuff in a few months even if you'd never seen any of it before. Tiny total selection compared to Netflix, not as much as Amazon or Hulu has, either. I bet after the first year a lot of people won't continue with it when the kids get older. Also, no visible fast forward, that sucks after getting used to it on Netflix and Hulu.
And that's the end of my entertainment podcast for the night, time to catch up on the sleep I missed yesterday.

Morning Ken and Greg! Supposed to warm up here after the next couple of days, for the foreseeable future, still below normal temps though. Might give me enough time to finish cleaning up the leaves, except for that 100' oak!
Yup, same here, oaks are a pain in the butt!
