Al, looks like a fun project. And if it gets cold, it'll fit in the living room...
Busy day, didn't have any fun at all. Wood have been a great riding day, sunny, around 68.
Got a lot of rain guessed for next week, thought I'd get the trailer ready to take some firewood to my daughter's place before it gets buried in sand. SIL will do the splitting with a hydraulic splitter there.
Starting with one row. Trailer weighs 900 lbs. Considering the wheels are holding a lot of the weight, I suspect those tree bits are well over 100 lbs each, I couldn't carry them, used a hand truck. SIL can get someone else to help load them on the splitter.
More in front and some in back, forgot to take a photo, but with just that in front, tongue weight was a bit over 400.
That oughta ride ok for about 7 miles, most at 40-45 mph. I figure total trailer weight a little under 2500 lbs. Could probably put another row in the back if it doesn't drop the tongue weight under 250. I'll wrap ratchet straps around them to keep everything in place. Probably around another half ton in the truck. I could have done all that in less than an hour... 50 years ago. Sure is slow going now. Have enough wood to do two more trailer loads, probably 3 in truck with the smaller stuff. If my SIL doesn't get over here some weekend soon this may be all he gets this winter, I'm not gonna load the next one by myself, this will be less than 2 trees and the 3rd was the biggest one.
