Does that mean the carbs aren’t completely closing off or that it is too lean?
I've had them apart more times than I care to think about. It's actually running rich. When i first got it started after I bought it, would rev up on start to almost 5K and finally come down. Would do the same after you came off throttle. it only does it to about 3k now. Something internal, Air leaks were first thought. Made new intake boots since OEM stuff doesn't exist. Spray them down with starter fluid and no change at idle. No idea but I can live with it at this time.
Never had carb problems with a bike yet. I'm pretty good with em on cars, just haven't learned on the bike yet. Supposed to be picking up an intake for the 454 in the morning. I love running old/discarded stuff and making big numbers with it
I got out of the carbureted bike business when my Superhawk 996 rolled out of the driveway. Sold my balancer and will never screw with them again. I suppose I should get rid of my dwell/tach meter and timing light too.
