Know how you feel, and they never understand how the underlings yank the rug out from under them on occasion, sometimes never knowing their day was not ruined by accident. I've had a few that regretted what happened after they messed with me, and I've never had one come back at me even when it was no secret I was responsible. They prefer to mess with people that won't stand up to them, just have to be careful to let their own actions bite them, not actually cause it if you want to keep the job. The opportunity usually presents itself, these people often have more ego than good sense. really satisfying when they get taken down a peg by their superiors.

It was fine, they’re ready for the inspection. Unless the FAA guy is a total ***, it shouldn’t be a big deal.
