TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge Part XIII
Well the service guy called and they got it narrowed down to carbon on the front piston to it needs a new long block, and all points in between including excessive crank runout, which would make me 2 for 2 on my touring bikes.

I can't tell if you're kidding!
Wish I was. I was worried it was crank runout because that happened to my 2011 Ultra. Fortunately under warranty. The noise was the same - front end clatter when you let off the throttle. But on this bike it only happens when cold and goes away. On the other one it was constant.
The service guy said if it was off, it wasn't by much - a matter of a few thousandths.

When mine had a deceleration rattle it was my wrist pin bushing. Sux man but hopefully they take care of you.
Hard to say. I think those are the two parts that are ok though. It's starting to sound like crank runout to me. Not as bad as on my 2011 so when it warms up, the noise goes away. Just a guess by a hack mechanic (me). I was hoping that wasn't the problem. Regardless, it remains to be seen if they will take care of me on this one. I reported it under warranty. They didn't fix it and told me it was normal. I brought it back in, out of warranty 5000 miles and 4 months later, and now it's a "problem". I could kick myself for not turning around and demanding they investigate further when I picked it up in March. I just stuck my head in the sand and believed they knew what they were doing.
