Heading out to the garage. It's finally time to change that rear tire on the Street Glide. I've got almost 20k miles on the damned thing and it's finally down to the 1st wear bar. Not cheap though. It'll set me back $315 for the tire with "free" mounting and balance. The Harley dealer wants $360, so it could be worse I guess.

The tires on the new ( 2009 ) and later baggers have definitely given much better service than the old ( smaller ) ones ... It's quite common to hear reports of 20,000 mile service ... Inflation is crucial though as underinflated will cause major cupping on the outer edges
Chris, i was lucky to get 6K on my last Heritage, but i change them out as soon as i get near the wear bar, On the Ultra i get 15K on the rear. Tires aren't cheap but they're cheaper than hospitals or funerals...I

Tire is off and in the car. Shop opens in 40 minutes, so I have time. And yes, it's an American Elite. Not cheap, but why buy cheap tires considering the potential. I forget what I got out of my last set, but I changed it out sooner than I normally would have because we had a big trip and I knew I would not be comfortable running them. I was considering changing this one before WS19, but it wasn't down to the wear bar yet, so I figured I would wear it out all the way. I will say, the handling gets a little funky once it's at 80%. I love the feel of new tires.
Also pulled the Yamaha front wheel to get it balanced. Shakes a bit up around 100. No bueno.
