Saw your other thread about the route tracking. Is that why you had to basically make a big turn around?

 

Lol......yeah. It was pretty annoying. I was using Google Maps as a GPS on my phone and when I doubled back it turned me down a gravel road. I figured it was a connector to another paved road. Nope, it sent me in a circle on fresh gravel roads in an effort to send me back towards the closed road. The Yamaha does pretty well on gravel in that it's much like an "Adventure" bike - tall, wide bars, light, decent suspension, so it wasn't too bad.

I learned during WS19 that the phone isn't ideal for route planning. And it's crap for rerouting. I'll need to pony up for a decent GPS for the bike. The Street Glide has the built in GPS, but I haven't really used it to it's potential.

The infotainment is ok for a gps. But if you use the HD planner and import it to the bike, the bike will reroute the ride you want to do. It’s a real **** off.

I did find some literally new roads - freshly paved. Didn't even have stripes. Iowa near the Mississippi River is actually very pretty and has some great scenery. Same with the other side of the river in Wisconsin.

Bob, my kids swear by "WAZE" on their phones. I've been with them on major roads on trips and it gives constant updates on traffic, police ,etc. Don't know if it can be programmed or not.

 

So I've heard. I guess they upped the waypoint number to 99, so if you drop waypoints everywhere, it will stick to the route. Maybe.

I really miss my old Garmin Street Pilot and Mapsource. So easy to route and sent you exactly where to told it to go.

 

I've heard good things about Waze. I think it would be especially useful for my business trips on main arterials. I'll give it a look.
