TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge Part XIII
Im about fuel economy and reliability. Will stick with the Toyota 4Runners and Honda Civics. Always treated me well.
Couldn't care less about fuel economy. Of course, I'm not paying California gas prices either. Put about 180k on the engine in the ranger while it was in the explorer. It still hasn't missed a beat. The Ram has 193k on it, and I've only had to replace the valve body because a solenoid went bad. I have no complaints about reliability in my cars
John, hot rods and sports cars..two different worlds. When i was looking for a convertible a few years ago, i considered the BMW but wasn't impressed with it. Never drove one, seemed small and overpriced. The Nissan 370Z 'vert fit the bill. Still small but handles like crazy and has 340HP. Of course, you can get the best of both worlds, just drop a 350HP SB in a Datsun 280Z buahahahaha

We've had good luck with our Fords over the past decade plus. Always treated us well. Mileage hasn't always been the best though, at least in the trucks. The diesel gets great mileage though and I love it. Can't imagine paying those CA fuel prices...
A 350 in a Datsun would be sweet!

I hear ya Al... I could do the old school Z with a SBC in it. Other than that, I don't do Japanese. Hell, this BMW is the first time I've even considered something not from the Detroit Iron Triangle
A nice Z3 came up for sale by me for $6900. It was very clean and appeared to be well maintained. Cheryl has always said that she likes them so I thought I would look into it as a cheap toy for her to have fun with. I did a reliability search on it and yikes..........run, don't walk from owning a Z3. Google is your friend but they appear to be money pits.

Got half the grass mowed, still so wet on the gully/hill in back it packs up and clogs the mower deck, have to let it dry out some more. Mebbe a couple more days, not supposed to rain till Friday. Lotta other garden werk I'd like to get done today.
Cars... spent Sunday afternoon at my daughter's, got to see her new car. Hyundai Palisade, if I spelled that right. All the bells & whistles I've ever seen and a fair amount I hadn't even heard of. Cruise control will keep it between the white lines and slow down if necessary, and warn you if you need to take over, or if you get too close to the lines when you're driving. Has a bird's eye view as if you were looking down at the car, real nice for tight spot parking, can see anyone around the car. It'll call you on your phone if anyone tries to mess with it. Lotta other stuff, she still hasn't finished the user's encyclopedia that came with it, probably some more star trek technology left to find. It's also a good car for Arkansas, has air conditioned seats.
I woodn't call it purty but don't tell Audrey.

I had a 300Z years back, used, not so many miles but about 12 or 14 years old, best handling car I ever had, most unreliable and hardest to work on. No kidding, I spent way more hours fixing than driving. When it got to a point I knew it would be at least a couple weeks before I could get it on the road again, I donated it to Disabled Veterans so they could get the salvage money.
