They hit the line at the lady next door. Went over to look. Got to be friendly with the supervisor. he says " Al, look where the gas line is"...Line was no more than 2" directly under the 5" thick sidewalk. Would have hit it planting flowers.
Re-morning, Woods... crews started digging up sidewalks on my side this morning. They hit a gas line within the first 5 feet..
Had an uncle hit a 30" gas line with a drag line bucket on his farm years ago. Gas company gave him a huge bill, 10's of thousands, but that turned out to be a mistake. He took them to court and they got in trouble; it was short several feet of the required depth where it was. He didn't have to pay anything. Until it got welded up, they couldn't shut the pressure all the way off, had to keep the lines full of gas so air couldn't get in. Can you imagine being the guy that had to wear an air hood so he could breathe while he welded a patch on it in a gas filled pit? I know the gas mix was too dense for ignition, but still. a hot arc immersed in natural gas...
