I read several years ago that over half the Vietnam vets had already died, going a lot sooner than the World War or Korean vets.

The last 20 years of wars have a unique difference from all our other conflicts, lot of guys didn't have anyone in their combat units get killed. That would have been extremely rare in previous conflicts. Really makes an impression on you when the guy you had breakfast with isn't there for supper and you still think of him 50 years later when you've forgotten many of the others that went home with you. Not saying those vets had it easier, lot of them did multiple tours and being told you were going back for the third or fourth time must have been intense. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those people just don't want to be reminded of it.

Not well known in our country, but some Americans are remembered in Australia, too. This is in a military museum in Nowra, Australia, and has more U.S. Army names than Australian. We have a similar one carved in stone at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. This is for the company I was in.

The population is losing sight of their heritage as fewer and fewer people serve their country.
With no "skin in the game", nothing invested, and no commitment, why should they care.
I fear they'll care when/if the Chinese gain military superiority over us.

Switzerland and Israel would agree with you.

They have an unnecessary “u” in their signage.

I pondered an age old question: Is giving birth more painful than getting kicked in the nuts? Women always maintain that giving birth is way more painful than a guy getting kicked in the nuts, but how could they know?

Well, after another beer, and some more heavy deductive thinking, I have come up with an answer to that question. Getting kicked in the nuts is more painful than having a baby, and even though I obviously couldn't really know, here is the reason for my conclusion. A year or so after giving birth, a woman will often say, "It might be nice to have another child."

On the other hand, you never hear a guy say, "You know, I think I would like another kick in the nuts."

I rest my case. Time for another beer, and then maybe a nap.
