Remembered a long forgotten memory today. My Huey was tasked once in Vietnam to climb to 10,000 feet to act as a radio relay for our command aircraft; we were out of range of our base at the 2000' above ground we normally flew at. Just before we were going to descend and regroup with the rest, the pilot heard a familiar voice, and asked if that was whatever his name was, a former friend. It was, and they said a few words before the pilot asked where his friend was, figuring they were close and might be able to meet up. Not to be, one of those rare and strange atmospheric events must have occurred; his friend was teaching a new pilot how to fly at some base in the U.S., think it was in Texas (and our commander couldn't reach base less than 200 miles away). Didn't last long and the connection ceased, then it was get down quick; in Vietnam, that 90+ jungle temperature drops a lot 10,000 feet up, and we didn't have a heater. That was the coldest temp I ever experienced there.

Evening Dan and Mike.

Mike, I’m assuming you were transmitting on a HF radio, probably in the lower sideband which makes tropospheric ducting quite possible.

Cool story Moldy

Going to be cooking up some tri-tip in a few. Might have a beer too. I cut way back on the alcohol.
