TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge Part XIII
Whew! What a weekend! Thursday I drove to my lady's house. Got there around 4pm. She handed me a glass with Crown Royal Maple and a couple of ice cubes. Didn't think I'd like a flavored whiskey but was pleasantly surprised. Then we headed to a farm nearby where a bunch of her friends, old hippies, were having a get together. Had a few beers and other substances and some chicken wings. Then we went back to her place and had some more CRoyal and watched some of the NFL draft. Friday morning she made biscuits and gravy from scratch and around 11 we loaded up the car and headed north to Washburn, Wi. It's about as far north as you can go in Wisconsin, about 4.5 hours from her place. We went to a Blues Festival and saw 3 bands Friday night and 3 more on Saturday. Had some good craft beers and danced some. Sunday morning we headed south and she asked to head east a bit into Michigan's UP so she could pick up rocks on the Lake Superior shore. We really had a great weekend.
Unfortunately, Sunday evening I got word that an old friend from lower Michigan had shot himself leaving a great wife and 2 lovely daughters behind. Today was spent contacting other mutual friends and trying to see if anyone knew anything. No note was left but he had sent out some dark texts to several people saying that this would be his last year on earth. We are all just numb!
