Look for something floating in tank that obstructs the main tube on the petcock when the fuel level gets downto that level. Had that happen on my 1990 Fatboy

Sure. More fuel in the main is better.

Does it seem to run out before it should on the main? Mine was caused by the previous owner discarding & NOT replacing the filter on the petcock
