Half decent bench drill press with a 3/4 hp motor run about 450 bucks.

jeez...the one I have is 1/5 HP and 3 speeds.

Mick, HF has one for $65 https://www.harborfreight.com/8-in-5...ess-60238.html...probably pretty much all the same

Uhh yuup! I use a floor stand Jet, drills just about anything, bought it new on sale, like 650.

Model builders drill press, balsa wood!
