I saw one of those on our road trip as we were going through the Black Hills. Even prettier in person. Great scheme on the Shark.

Howdy Stan, Larry, Greg & anyone I missed

 

They can be handy, but don't use the rubber ones. They twist under acceleration and stopping, crack and can snap off. I only had one do that, and fortunately in my garage. Tried to put air in the tire, and it snapped when I touched it. Checked a couple others I had, and they were cracking. I only use metal stems now, 90 degree or straight.

 

Most 90 degree valves, even the metal ones, are held into the rim by rubber so they deflect somewhat. Checking pressure and adding air puts sideload on that gasket and weakens it. I never use them for that reason.

That said, there may be some I am unfamiliar with. The ones on Cheryl's Moto Guzzi are factory 90 degree and very secure. Not sure if it's a design thing between the valve and rim or not.

 

 

I have the 90° valve stems and the TPMS and they're very solid. The angle makes filling the tires easy too.

 

No question your department has the right guy as a CSI.
