TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge Part XIII
Larry, I have a kit for the powder coat. More like a little machine and I purchased high quality powder. I refurbished my wife's old oven and bought her a new one. Since then, I've been practicing by coating small parts, and only using black. I started blasting my chrome and blacking out the bike little by little. The wheels are an intricate color that I have neither the equipment, nor skill to shoot properly, and that color is expensive so I'd rather not waste.
The black pieces I did except for the largest parts that wouldn't fit in my oven. I'm still doing parts too. For instance, half my foot boards and pegs are black, the other half, still chrome.
The process is like this:
Before stripping. The original black.
The wheel stripped and soon to be blasted.
The first coat of powder is sprayed and baked on only enough to allow it to flow out.
After the parts cool, a clear is applied. This reacts to the base layler and the color changes as it bakes. Think science, only this is actually magic.
When they come out theyre the color i wanted. In direct light they're bright and have a lot of depth because of the clear. Indoors, they just look darl metalic red with sparkles.

Interesting Chris.......
When it's all said and done, what other parts on your bike will be this red color theme ?

Some 12' KST Mayhem bars and a Trask Derby cover. Possibly the foot boards some time next week.
