Russ, aircraft radios don't sound any better than they did 60 years ago, is there a legitimate reason for that? I don't buy into the aircraft generates static while flying and interference from other components of the aircraft; that should have been taken care of decades ago. Cell phones seem to work fine in an aircraft, except for argumentatively interfering with aircraft electronics.

 

Aircraft radios are waaaay better than 60 years ago. Digital technology, longer ranges, tuned antennas, no tubes, all contribute to the radios today. Lack of static discharge systems very much influences the operation of electronics onboard. I’ve seen an aircraft with three bad static wicks absolutely jack up a Garmin G1000 system after 20 minutes of flight.
