She had an experimental ankle replacement 3 1/2 years ago, never did take and she hasn't walked on it since then.

My Ol had an ankle replacement almost 20 years ago and she is fine... well as far as fine can get, they had to replace the neoprene in it some years back though! She was the youngest woman at the time in the country to have one done. Sorry to hear that..
