So different from cattle car commercial flying, although I have to admit the one time I got to fly first class in an electric reclining seat was pretty comfy. Before the Feds 911 knee jerk reactions, I was able to fly jumpseat in the cockpit a few times, that was interesting. Sometimes passengers are lucky they can't see what's going on up there, might leave stinky seats.

Best one:
Captain: See the runway yet?
FO (1st officer/co-pilot): Not yet.
THUD.
Captain: you didn't warn me!
FO: We hit as I saw it.
In a DC9 not rated for zero visibility landings. At least the pilot was spot on with the instrument approach, wasn't 3 ft off the center line. He hit thrust reversers and engaged the anti-locks to a full stop. Asked him why we did a panic stop on the runway, and he said he only knew we were in the middle of the runway, not how much was left. We taxied off the runway past piles of snow higher than the wingtips, it could easily have been a disaster if the pilot hadn't nailed the landing so good - without seeing a thing but old analog instruments. I had a great view, crappy little fold seat, but it's just behind the center console between and slightly higher than the pilots.

Of course, that was a walk in the park compared to military flying, sometimes I feel a bit sad I'll never get to do that again. Not the near death parts, the fun ones.

I got to fly in the Jump seat behind the pilots in a DC 6 to O'Hare back in the late 1980's. It was terrible weather and clouding up bad. The deicer wasn't working very well and when we were real close to landing the Glide Slope Indicators started reading different. We couldn't land in Chicago and the Pilots got real serious in the Long climb out with too much ice accumulation. Ended up diverting to a small airport in Wisconsin and as we were taxing on the ramp, a herd of deer ran across the runway.

Working at an Airfreight company was the most fun job I have ever had in the last 40 years. A few of the guys who had bikes would load them in a plane and go interesting places on vacation.
