Strip the clearcoat first with a good " aircraft stripper"...then depending on how bad they're pitted....fine sandpaper, then finer paper, scuff pads, then polish. Ken put me on to a metal polish called "ZEPHYR PRO 40" ...best stuff that I've ever used and I've tried just about everything out there over the years of building cars.. available on Amazon.

You guys were discussing that Zephyr Polish a few months ago and I saved it on my Amazon list.
My forks aren't pitted at all. I had 1 month and almost 5,000 miles of bugs stuck to them from my trip to California.
I ruined the clear coat when I cleaned them.
