Greg, where did you get the heim joints? Perhaps I'd like to do something like this. Powder coat over chrome plated polished stainless would be the way to go.

I noticed an improvement in shifting with the heim joints. They feel more "secure" and positive than the stock joints. And Greg is right in that it does make a small difference. I use toe shift only, not the stock toe/heel shifter. You might also find heim joints at your local industrial supply house. But I did buy mine through McMaster-Carr. Check them out sometime....they have a huge catalog of fasteners, and all type of industrial equipment and supplies.

Okay, next stupid question then. Where do I get a round of stainless? I have access to a lathe to turn it down and thread it, I just don't know where to get raw materials.
