TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge Part XIII
Chris, if this is something Tanya really wants to do (ride her own motorcycle) she will get over “her” disappointment quickly and continue trying. If she’s doing it just to make you happy, there’s trouble on the horizon. imho
No doubt, she panicked when it stalled. Rolled backwards and it slammed her down on the right. My thought was that the front brake wouldn't hold on the incline but it was rock solid when I backed it back down after picking her up. It's lack of instinct and skill at this point, but tough lessons.
I thought this, so you bringing it up is scary. I don't know if she's doing for me, but it crossed my mind. I've never once said she should get her own bike or try to make her feel she wasn't welcome on mine, but that doesn't mean anything.
Chris, too bad about Tanya. Hopefully, she's determined enough to stay with it. Going to be her decision , not much you can do about it.
Ask her, and before she answers, tell her that if she would prefer not to ride her own bike , nothing would make you happier than to have her just ride with you. That way you are more likely to get the truth.

Chuck, I appreciate that advice, but knowing my wife, she'd take that as condescending and into the depths of hell I would soon descend.
I found the brake lever. It was the only part that was actually mangled. The mirror and rear brake lever are scratched but perfectly functional. It if were me on my bike, I'd take this opportunity to buy new mirrors I liked. The foot peg folded up and only the bracket got hit but that's on the bottom and isn't broken. The bars and the foot control bracket kept the tank off the pavement.

Cheryl would see it as a challenge and she would ride with me less than she does now.
Chris, I have been down this road ahead of you. All you can do is be supportive of her efforts, yet firm in your boundaries as far as how she proceeds. you are the experienced one - not her. I'm fortunate that Cheryl gets that and let me just modify her bike to accommodate her size as well as the inevitable drops. It's no fun for anyone to break the bike. We all see it as a badge of failure. So adding things to limit that, like crash bars, takes the sting out of drops. Then it's just a scuffed up crash bar that can be painted (I suggest black crash bars for that reason).
