Greg, one option for you is to install a HD Tour Pack quick-release mount, allowing you to run w/o the TP when not needed. I found it very beneficial on my '09 Ultra.
Best looking bike I owned.

Pro-Tip. When maneuvering your bike , especially when in the garage or in and out of a parking space, AT NO TIME apply the front brake with the handle bars turned to full lock. You may think this is obvious but the tendency to do it anyway is natural but DON’T , the bike will go down in a New York second.
