When I was at Fort Hood, went to SA for a weekend with some army buddies. One of them familiar with the town said we had to see the Alamo at night. The joke wasn't appreciated, was a hangout for gays to connect after dark. I seem to remember something said like, wtf is wrong with you, dude? If San Antonio had any redeeming features back then (1966 or 67), I didn't see them.

The Alamo still stands, and I've been numerous times. Super cool place with a lot of meaning and heritage.

Actually, the Alamo is more well protected by Texicans than you would imagine. It is nearly shrine status.

I didn't see any untoward activity when I was there.
