I have worked in the highway and bridge construction business for 37 years. Fours years with a contractor and then the last 33 with a civil engineering consultant firm. We manage projects for FDOT, cities, counties and or airports. I worked my way up from the bottom to project engineer and then went on into corporate as a QA/QC manager for services in the all of Florida and some of the southeast. In the state of Florida they created a program back in the 90's that has classes and exams that certifies individuals to be inspection staff on projects. It is a requirement to be approved to work on the projects. In 2006 I was approved by the state as an instructor in the categories of asphalt, concrete, earthwork, and QC Manager for the program and got our firm approved to be a provider of the classes and administer the exams. Last year when I turned 62. I opted to step back to a lesser position, cut back to three days a week and call it semi-retirement. I went back from corporate management to the project level. Currently I am billable to a city project 8 hours a week and a country contract with many projects for the other two days. I essentially track quantities completed and approved for payment to the contractor, a bean counter. I also still administer exams and teach an occasional class. I think I will fully retire at 65 and only teach an occasional class for something to do. I like passing on all I have learned over the years to the younger folks too.

G'Morning, Woods....still home. Have a christening to go to and party afterwards. I won't be staying long. Having a really rough day, been up since 3:30 with bladder in overdrive, Weebles making an appearance, BP through the roof. Seems like I regressed 4 months today. I really don't want to be around people and I'll be heading back to the lake as soon as I can. On the positive side, I had a whole bunch of boxes and envelopes of puppy and fishing stuff waiting for me when I got home yesterday.
