Gotta drive around 4pm, gonna put the 600amp Lithium jumper on the van battery before I even try it, should make it easier on the battery and starter. In these temps, motors can make noises you don't hear in summer, for a few seconds until moving parts outside the engine block catch up with each other and stop complaining. Tomorrow morning's airport run is gonna be downright unpleasant. I'll be bundled up in the car, with more layers, my heaviest mittens with thermal liners, and the felt lined boots in the back seat just in case there's some unanticipated walking. Lot of people driving cars in winter here don't even put a coat on in the car, warm it up first. I don't want to freeze to death in an otherwise survivable car accident.
Somehow a very long time ago I learned to go with the fall as soon as it was apparent it wasn't stoppable. Instinct, you don't have time to think about it. In my early 30's I stumbled on some steps, grabbed a handrail and dislocated my shoulder. Worst fall injury, and I didn't even go all the way down. That last fall before I got the ice cleats, I didn't get up right away either. Kind of a taking inventory thing, making sure something isn't gonna hurt real bad when you do start moving.

Have you ever been out with a wind chill in the minus 50's, actual in the minus 20's? Just getting the mail feels like you walked on another planet.
