TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge Part XIII
Greg, this is unlike any modern plumbing. After being there for 60 or 70 yrs, I doubt it would come apart anyway without breaking something. The brass pipe coming out of the drain elbow is soldered on and I wouldn't dare try to put any heat under there to get it off. It's just a small "weeping"...I'm pretty sure a couple coating of FlexSeal will fix it....fingers crossed.
Al can you remove the hair screen in the tub and line the inside with a 2 part epoxy? That plus your flex seal should do the trick.
Russ, you , obviously, have little experience in heating paint up to critical mass AND beyond. This is not an application that requires it...JEEZ... I do have an idea that we can collaborate on with your electrical/electronic expertise. We can make a fortune. Heated waterproof inserts for kayak paddles.
3/8" wide steel bar welded across drain opening that screen screws to. No access but did coat in with flex seal using nozzle extension... believe me that I thought this thing out thoroughly and FlexSeal is probably the only option.
