Evening woods,

I sat with my dad tonight and held his hand as he passed to the other side. I'm numb and sad but at the same time I am ok with the fact that I was there until he made the next step of his journey.

He was a Marine and a proud one at that. Since I was a kid, I remember telling other kids on the playground that my dad was in Vietnam. I still tell that story to this day and am still just as proud.

If you have a beer in the next few days, I ask each of you to raise a toast to a Marine who I called dad for 52 years. He was a warrior and a good man who brought home the hells of war and still made a life for me despite all of that.

Thank you woods for your friendship here.

Just never have the right words, Rick. Hope it was something of a comfort to you that you were able to be with him at that time.
