TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge Part XIII
When I vacationed in the Dominican Republic I rented a motorcycle as my transportation (small Yamaha enduro). I would come across check points frequently where military lookin dudes with automatic weapons would be emptying busses and cars on to the side of the road, for what reason I don't know. There I am, looking all Jeffrey Lebowski with a long beard, open shirt blowing in the wind, surf trunks, and sandals. I figured they would find me of interest, but nope. Every time they waved me through. It was a bit of a let down.
I think vacuums are one of those products that are made as cheaply as possible and are intended to last maybe 2 years. I don't mind spending more for better, but I'm not sure one is actually getting "better". Just more fancy which means more stuff to break.
Greg, had one for years until the handle broke in half, fixed it but broke in another spot so I bought another one.. Kids bought those Dyson Animal ones for $5-600 and the Hoover outperformed them. My wife hates it because it's heavy and has a lot of suction so it's hard for her to use. I keep in basement and I use it
All this talk of vacuums made me think of brooms and then I wandered to the thought of watching my Grandma sweep her front yard. In west Texas people swept the loose, fine dirt until all you had was hard pan.

I dunno, Mick, that one avocado slice looks off about 1/64.
