Interesting stuff, pretty cool when you think about it. Got a one-on-one tour a late 50s era coal-fired power plant once here in MN. It had been shut down in the 90s and now dark. The electric motor was still slowly spinning the turbine shaft at the time though - my guide said you never know.
EDIT: Small plant - had a single generating turbine.

Yeah, the shafts tend to bow if you don't keep em rotating. Getting interesting around here, pipes swinging that aren't supposed to

Good comparison. Now, imagine the washing machine being powered by 1003f degree steam at 3600psi and 9.9 million lbs/hr

I can't really remember. Each line has 3 turbines and a generator, with an excitation housing on the end.
