TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge Part XIII
Smoking is rough one. I don't smoke, tried it and didn't like it. That was 20 years ago. I've had no desire to touch it or be around it. But I watched my mom struggle to quit and she finally did, back in 1989 I think it was. Hasn't touched it since. But so many struggle with it.
If you want a support group I can shame you if you want... Take your smokes and chuck 'em when I see 'em. I do that to people here and they've all learned not to set down their cigs or snuff when I'm around. So many things I've thrown away.

Thanks for the support guys. I've quit before and couldn't handle the large weight gain in a short time. Now, i'll be starting about 25lbs below my normal weight.
You gotta learn not to screw with old people. Remember that life in prison doesn't have that much meaning to us old guys...

As a part of the massive tobacco industry settlement states established programs that offer cessation aids.
I got free nicotine lozenges from the state of Oklahoma when I quit. You may want to look at PA, Al.

When i had my gall bladder removed, I made it very clear to the nurses on the floor that I was a smoker. They said we'll give you the nicotine patches". I told her " I've tried them and couldn't keep them lit"..Since,I knew the Nurse Supervisor, we made a "deal"....that was 10 years ago, probably couldn't do it now.
That's hilarious Al! Always taking notes. And with the way things are, ESPECIALLY now, no way you'd get away with it. People call cops for others not wearing masks. You trying to smoke in a hospital would incite riots and martial law.
I recall back in the 80s when I was doing a 6 week stint in the hospital for a motorcycle crash, I was allowed to smoke in the room. I was on oxygen and tons of Morphine and/or Demerol. My sister, who worked in the hospital as a lab tech, would visit and find me unconscious with a lit cigarette between my fingers. She went ape **** on the staff. Thus began the end of my smoking career.
