Yup. This is a low income town and its going to hurt a lot of people. 3 bookkeepers have been fired over the years for embezzlement. Now we have to pay. Our bill for water/sewer is about $40. Not bad but they should have seen it coming and raised it incrementally over the years.
During our last “drought” back from ‘02-‘06 or so, Denver Water asked the citizens to cut back on unnecessary water usage 15%. So consumers, being the good citizens that we are, cut consumption by 25% according to DW. Our reward? Increased rates because they weren’t making enough money because people weren’t using water!!! Not only that, people were being fined for letting their lawns go dormant from lack of water!!
You can’t make this **** up!!
Same exact thing happened here. People learned to up their water usage before proposed water fines so they could show enough of a water cut not to be fined.
