My Mom always told me the story about her, my Dad and my Grandpa renting a boat to fish in Portage Lakes here next to the golf course. It started raining like hell and my Grandpa said look at those idiots golfing in the rain! Fishing in the rain was OK, but not golfing!

My Dad played golf and watched it religiously, and I remember an interview with him and it struck me as odd so it's one of those useless knowledge things stuck in my head.
