Most of the food I've had in Mexico was pretty bland. What we call Mexican is TexMex, and even Taco Bell has more flavor than some of the roadside stands I grabbed a quick bite at in Mexico. We cook hot spices in the meal, they cook something bland and have dishes of various sauces and relishes on the side to flavor as you like it. Usually at least one of these will be hot. I made the mistake of saying the relish I put on my meal once was pretty hot, and an old Mexican guy at the table (looked like a gangster, but really friendly) took a spoonful and ate it straight. Then handed the spoon to me. The third round I said I knew when I couldn't win and put the spoon down, and everybody applauded and laughed. Later, an expat American told me privately that I'd gotten a lot of respect doing that, because most Americans would have refused a spoonful of relish and the spoon a Mexican had eaten out of. What the hell, life is short, enjoy it. What were we talking about?

Sorry, I meant this is the one from 2016 or so, not the newest one...which, judging by the previews, I will enjoy like the rest
