Most screws are JIS today, Phillips are a dying breed used only in the U.S. JIS screwdrivers usually fit phillips pretty good, sometimes better. Phillips drivers have a longer center tip and angled flutes; the tip keeps them from going all the way down in shallower JIS screws, and the angled flutes slip easy. I have an assortment of Vessel brand JIS screwdrivers and tips; you probably won't find any in stores, they're a premium Japanese brand I got through Amazon. A couple took about a month to get here from Japan. These are my favorite cross point screwdrivers by far.

Retiring really cut back on my expenses. I still haven't put gas in anything but the snowblower so far this year, and the van and pickup are both at 3/4 tank. Food keeps going up, though, some things have doubled or more in the last 10 years.

Problem is the U.S. uses oddball sizes compared to most of the world, and as fasteners get made more elsewhere, we're having to switch to their tools. I have to admit, in most cases metric, JIS and such are better designs. Exceptions are proprietary stuff the French came up with in aviation tooling for Airbuses, a lot of that I ran into was just flimsy and awkward compared to American.
