I got a call from school (about 18 years ago) that my daughter was tormenting an Indian girl. The wife and I were mortified. I don't recall what the punishment was, but it worked because she's the least prejudice person I know now.

But man......that was rough. So I get it.

I just figured after Benjamin been the kid that was ignored and excluded (and he still below his grade level for speech) that he wouldn't be "that kid". Especially since he is the type that cries when the sun sets in the evening...very emotional (I blame Beth for that)...though he might be more sensitive. Oh well, we'll see how he does with extra chores and no TV/Tablet

I think that it's human nature to want to be higher up on the pecking order. When we're young that opportunity presents itself when a "weaker" person is introduced into the scenario. Having been in that ("weaker") position may even make it worse because it's validation that has been absent in the social setting. It's a learning curve and this was a tough lesson on your son I'll bet.

I don't envy children and I would never want to go back in time. Not that it's any different now than it was back in our day. It was always brutal. Lord of the Flies wasn't that far off from any given day on the playground. (Do they even have those anymore?)

Yeah, they have playgrounds....he has left it twice this school year. Once to pee because he did not think he would make it inside and then last week following 2 other kids to see how deep the snow was in the field

Mark, I'm bettin that Benjy was only going along (with the exclusion of the other kid) to be a part of the group he was with. He probably felt as though if he didn't go along with the others, he would be excluded himself......Tough times and tough decisions for one so young, but that's how we all learn.
