Roy Clark was mentioned... Was on the flight line at Fairfax airport (long gone) across the river from the old Kansas City airport in '69 when he and a blond haired guy walked out to a Beech Bonanza and flew off. I remember they both had white shirts with lace fronts and green extreme bell bottoms. Looked like they'd slept in their clothes, disheveled hair, and appeared hung over. Didn't do a preflight, just got in, fired up, and left.
Key West riding was mentioned... I only got as far south as Miami, had intended to go to Key West, but that long ride down the islands seemed like it would get old in a hurry after all the flat road down the east coast, just straight, flat, and water. Cut across the old Tamiami Trail instead and back up the other coast. Thought it was a horrible state for riding, almost all 2 lane at that time, with so many really slow cars it was like a short sprint to the next roadblock. Except at night, and then you'd get smeared head to toe with bug goo. I actually heard the plop hitting the ground getting off the bike once, such a large bucket full of bug goo fell off that had collected between me and the tank. Jacket and jeans went in a coin laundry when I stopped for the night. Before security cams, get arrested for indecent exposure doing that today.
