They do double duty; alignment and locking.

Shaft, made a deflector Shield out of a piece of 1/16” steel to keep the flame for hitting the seal, had lots of sand handy to cool things down.

Got my parts for the shop furnace today in the mail. Fixed a rotten elbow in the stack. I lost the four screws to hold the new parts in, stopped me dead in my tracks
