Everyone who is looking for metal targets are asking for AR500 plate. The stuff is expensive and my suppliers can't get it. What is he shooting and how far away?

Just the heating side. But did hear the other side isn't doing so well. Not sure how true that is though.

ah yes, he did mention something about AR500. what is it?

I have to wonder about the other side. they got big, and there sure isn't anywhere near enough work in these parts for all that iron. they had me put in quotes for trucking to some lake in northern Manitoba last winter where they were bidding on a big job. must have been hungry to be bidding **** two provinces away

Its a very tough plate. Its used for body armour and ballistic plates. Abrasion resistant.

I guess they did go to Manitoba. I can't see it being feasible to have that much iron sitting there either and not heading to the auction. Apparently Weaver side was bank rolling the Heating side too.

what if a guy just had some one inch plate, wouldn't that stand up? largest caliber would be .308, as for distance he's been hitting targets up to 500 meters. so everything from there to 50 feet lol.

yeah, Darrell Smith told me that job wasn't great for them. he since quit and bought his own truck.

Regular plate is just mild steel. Won't last, but is cheap and very accessible. Definitely don't recommend shooting stationary steel plate less than 100 yards.

Well, with oil close to $60 a barrel, it might help him. With Baytex being slow, that is what really hurt him. Not sure if he's by Fox Creek or GP working.

my first thought was the ricochet from steel plate, he told me about a target design that hangs and angles down or something

He's right about that. If it can deflect down and the swinging will take a lot of the force out of the bullet.
