I have Netflix and Amazon Prime (wouldn't have if not for the free shipping, but it does have a lot more to watch than I expected), and news and weather channels on the Roku for free. I doubt I'd ever watch broadcast if it wasn't for a lady friend that wants weather on it 4 or 5 times a day. I even get PBS (most of the shows) free on the Roku. There's nothing I want to see bad enough to put up with commercials; when she watches Sunday Morning, I go on the computer.
