TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge Part X
Ok....you can do two things. Wrap the glass tightly with strips of masking tape and install. The tape will burn off and the glass will expand to fill the chamber. Or, you can do the same thing with fine stainless wire but not sure if it will eventually disintegrate.
It seemed brittle. No surprise given where it resides. It has the steel wool material around the core then the fiberglass matting/packing. I saw the blue painters tape on there when I removed it. I figure it will be a cheap and quick project....meaning I will take a full day to do it to escape the confines of the house over the winter

It's a long story....I wanted to swap the end caps but one of the threaded inserts in the left baffle was spinning and the bolt would not come out. So I had to do surgery and partially pulled the baffle out. The fiberglass packing did not come out with the baffle and when I pulled it out it looked black and puffy like Marcia Brady with her afro wig. So I took it out of both and rode it around. Doesn't have that same deep throaty sound and unless I imagined it when I heard it, it seemed to be a little lacking in the torque dept.

I would suggest NOT using wire to secure the packing ... it can cause hot spots and will damage the chrome ... I've seen it happen.
