My Toro is over 25 years old, first start this winter took 2 pulls. I've had the carb off once and cleaned it out, probably needs a bit more now, surging at idle and needs partial choke while blowing sn*w. Used it twice so far this winter, I can live with the partial choke till it warms up. Maybe even another year or two, I tend to procrastinate. I could say more, but... maybe later.

Idle air circuit ia plugged, super easy fix from inside the float bowl there is also a tiny air bleed they don't talk abouton the side of some of the carbs. If it has a pimer bulb a quick and dirty fix is to shoot gummout through the primer tubeso it fills the bowl, then use starting fluid to start it and keep it running for a few until it quits smoking and put fue injector cleaner in the tank. It usualy will smooth out and run with the choke off before you,re done... Check out "Taryl Dactyl" Ha Ha and "Donny Boy " on you tube, great fun on a wintrey day...

I also have an OLD 98? 2 stroke Yard Machine blower (MTD), same shape as yours just went through it second time, (Spitting fuel) internal passages fubarred, broke down and ordered NOS Tecumseh carb from EBay. Should be here today. Interesting info on Snowblower Forums .com. Most brands are now made by MTD. Cub, Craftsman, Troy Bilt. Deceptive advertising all use the same couple of Chinese motors but with their brand stickers on them. The average dude with dimples where his knuckles should be doesn't know the difference. You can find all kinds of good blowers on the side of the road in michigan with the same problem, a clogged idle jet because nobody knows where it is, under a plastic plug, ON TOP of the Japanese carb held down by the rubber ring on the idle adjustment screw! Ha Ha. I flip them all the time when I have time...And even funnier, Harbor Freight sells replacement motors for a hundred bucks and folks are just bolting Predator motors in them when they can't fix the Chondas.
