on another note the asshat that installed the electric upgrade for our house (before we bought it), never screwed the meter to the house!! 4 open holes in the back...it filled with water pouring a shitload of water in my fuse box.

I really wanted to build my own house when younger, but circumstances were never right for it. Commercially built houses usually have so much cost cutting (not purchase, but profit) crap in them and built as fast as they can that the problems can be incredible. I've had two new houses and the repairs and corrections, including wiring, started the month I moved into both of them. The house I'm in now had a mix of mostly aluminum and some copper wiring, a rainbow of insulation colors, and there wasn't a room or circuit in the house that didn't have code violations. The week I moved in I actually cut a few wires and capped them, too dangerous the way they were. Got some good sparks in the kitchen when I started replacing wire in there, one circuit was still hot after pulling the circuit breaker. Found out someone crammed a bunch of wires in a junction box for a light, and just pigtailed all the hot wires, never mind they connected to 3 circuit breakers. A 30 amp 220 breaker had a wall receptacle circuit powered off one leg. 14 awg wire on a 30 amp breaker, that could get interesting. Before I started replacing wiring, plugging in a vacuum cleaner would dim all the lights in the house, was hardly any 12 awg wire used anywhere. Even the stove was a size under code.

I knew it had electrical problems just looking at the service box before buying it, but the owners needed a quick sale, price was good, and I wanted a big back yard on a cul de sac, and there weren't many of those, none cheap. I feel safer in a house I wired, anyway.

Speaking of wiring, replaced an outdoor driveway motion detector LED light today, installed an additional one on a side door, did an airport taxi run, and got absolutely nothing done on my own house today.

Mornin Doc. Turned out to be a nice day yesterday. Sunshine and mid 50s. Went up to the lake and got the camper winterized. Just got to dump holding tant and get it off to storage.
