A dormant memory cell fired reading this. Some decade back, Dad had a '56 Chevy, was catching up fairly quick to two guys on a bike on a 2 lane road going through farm country, pulled over to pass, and they made a left turn on a driveway or farm road with no warning. Those old cars really nosedived and leaned when you hit the brakes and steered around something, got a bit sideways recovering when past them. It was really close, a few feet at best. Bet those guys had a bad feeling when they turned and saw that Chevy with smoke coming off the tires in the lane they just blocked.

That didn't take long, you like to play hard with that toy?

I think about half the used cars I've bought had Goodyears, hate those things. First minivan had those godawful rain tires with the huge center groove, would spin them easy taking off on dry roads, treacherous on wet, snow was... damned near impossible, looked like new when I got rid of them when it started snowing. Current truck has those Wrangler tires, sure spins em easy taking off on wet roads, but they're still in good shape and otherwise it drives ok, but it won't get those again.

I did get Goodyear Endurance trailer tires just before the Dakota trip, only non-Chinese I could get around here. Gotta be better than Chinese, have deeper tread and rated D instead of the Chinese C's. Hopefully won't get in snow, don't have to worry about braking, and I doubt that trailer's gonna be spinning it's wheels much. I felt them after some 80 mph running, and they didn't get hot.

He's lucky you weren't one of the many people that would have just slammed on the brakes with no avoidance maneuver and just took him head on.

Hey John, good deed you did with that rider. Lucky for him you weren't like most people who drive like they're comatose.
