Told my manager a few months ahead of time, but he didn't think I'd really do it. Turned the papers in a month ahead, and he realized I was serious and the problem he had; due to massive company downsizing, I was one of several left that was the only guy left that knew how to do a lot of things in my specialty. Spent the last month training two guys and writing pages of tips and procedures that either weren't, or didn't make sense, in the manuals. Had a couple guys say why not just put the paperwork in the day before and give 'em the finger on the way out, but I figure you want a company that's paying your pension to have every advantage. Even answered a couple of "we can't figure this out" phone calls.

our pension had had been rolled over into a 401k, so didn’t have to rely on the mill for anything when I left.
The young college boys they had been hiring as supervisors didn’t want to hear what any of us old guys had to say on how to fix anything.

I had a few of those, Really burned one once, told me one too many times to just do what I was told, so I just shut up and watched him waste about 80 man hours of work. Got his butt reamed by his boss and he listened to me after that. It's kinda fun to watch a young smartass realize he was a dumbass.
