When that happened, thought I was screwed for retirement. Then found out how much cheaper single life was and ended up retiring at 62 eight years later. Big thing is paying off all loans except mortgage; things like car and visa payments can wreck retirement plans. Mortgage would be paid off too, but... splitting of assets meant a new and bigger one. Retirement turned out better than expected, even grew the motorcycle collection.

Did quite a bit of fiberglass repair in my early aircraft wrenching days, didn't care for it either.

Sun's finally out, planned a longer ride at last, and... there's a crying tiny girl downstairs, just woke up. Kind of last minute, will take up all the riding hours today. Better go down and she why she's unhappy.

Yea, I had to redo the mortgage and hand over the proceeds also. That should be paid off a little later this summer. My biggest issue at this point is I am only 60 and if I retire, no benefits without paying extra for them

I'd had enough, was going at 62 regardless, but had the luckiest break of the career - a great early out program just in time to retire, included bridge insurance to 65. Avoided a chunk out of my retirement savings on that one.

If they offered anything like that at this point, I would be all over it!
