Lou, had issues with mine not spinning, according to my wife, last night. Fortunately, it was fine today. It's 12 y/o ,so around the right time to crap out. Started looking for a new one today, but stopped looking when it went back to working. Always bought Whirlpool ones.
Ours did that. It was the lid switch. Also changed out the water pump over a year ago. I assume that it's the water pump again. Just time for another washer. Probably another Kenmore or whirlpool. Top loader only. Too many friends have had issues with front loaders and they are crazy expensive. We are looking at Craigslist right now then going to the scratch and dent store.
I've the pumps on both clothes washer and dishwashers. After the second time, they're done. Neither lasted very long to boot.
That's about how I looked at it. Was a pain to completely tear apart it for the pump the first time. I don't I want to do it again on a10 year old washer. What did you replace it with and are you happy with it?

We have a Whirlpool high capacity warsher. Only 2 years old but been no trouble in that 2 years
Kenmore Elite front loaders. 10 years old now. Not a problem with leaks. I have had to clean the "suds detector" a couple times. Gloria likes them.
