So you start at what is existing and then try to patch in the new stuff using this type of drawing?

Yes that's the gist. Fortunately they have the manuals for the new system that I can use. This is all experimental of course and on foreign registered aircraft.

Ok. Is the new stuff compatible with the old stuff and vice versa? How does it being foreign make things different?

Because it is foreign means that there are no aircraft certification issues with the FAA. Some of the old stuff I will have to disable while this system is in there but I have to restore it after I remove the test equipment.
