We aren't taught much of Canada in school, we learned about everyone else.
1867 was when we broke free of British rule, but we still use their monarch. Maybe one day we will break away from them as well. Still don't know what their role is.
Okay, that makes sense. For some reason, I thought the change from colony to Commonwealth was much more recent than that!

Realistically, 150 years is not that long if you start looking at the age of Europe.
