Notice I said.."TRY"......it's a learning process to shift the Ural...you have to be gentle but violent and have a cadence like a Viennese waltz.....vroom vroom vroom vroom..clunk clunk clunk clunk....etc.
Gotta stomp mine with the heel pedal to shift up. Stomp, just clunks 6 times worse than a Harley. Upshift with the toe, I grind it every time. At least finding neutral ain't too bad.
Saw this today, 1938 BMW R71. Noticed the Russians didn't make an exact copy of BMW, Beemers got heavier metal for the sidecar and attach struts. Didn't get a pic of the motor, has the flathead.
So Ural are not good at shifting. Is that one of the perks or what?
Yep...keeps us humble.... Oh...doesn't like to go fast, handle or stop either....and it's not real crazy about right turns, but it does make you pay attention.

It can do what 10 years of marriage cannot? I don't believe you!!!
Urals are pretty crude. Straight cut gears, just 4 forward, and little if any transmission change since... the 40's? Except in 2007 they imported better quality gears instead of making them in-house. Guess they don't chip as bad now. Maybe.
